about Sanjaya Malakar from "American Idol" earlier this year. But, it
turns out, India has its own knock-off of the series (itself a knock-off
of the British original). This year's winner, a Kolkata policeman named
Prashant Tamang, is on a U.S. tour right now. He already performed to
packed houses in DC and Boston and has two more gigs left - NYC on Dec. 8
and Atlanta on Dec. 9. See info below about a press conference today in
NYC and other contact info below... Questions to Kashish below - or Anup

INDIAN IDOL 3 PRASHANT TAMANG US TOUR; NY SHOW W/ DESI R&B STAR RAGHAV
Since winning the third Indian Idol in September this year, the boy from
Darjeeling serving in the Calcutta Police, Prashant Tamang, has become a
South Asian music star and has gone on to perform over two dozen shows in
less than two months! On 1 December, he started his first US Tour.

York and Atlanta – performed to an enthusiastic audience in his first show
at the Oakton High School in Vienna, Virginia to a full house audience of
over 1,000 people. For an en core, guest performer Raju Lama of Mangolian
Hearts joined Tamang on stage to sing ‘Yo Maan Ta Mero Nepali Ho’
The next evening, as Boston was experiencing its first snow fall of the
winter, the audiences at the St. Armenian Church’s performance center
danced and sang along asang did a duet on one of Mongolian Hearts’
singles, as well as ‘Yo Maan Ta Mero Nepali Ho.’
In DC/VA as well as Boston, Tamang surprised the audiences by inviting a
female audience member to join him on stage to dance with him as he sang a
romantic Bollywood ballad. Also, at both the shows Tamang personally
addressed and signed CDs of his debut album, Dhanyabaad, to two lucky
winners chosen through an on-stage lucky draw of all the ticket numbers.
Local artists, as well as popular Nepali pop-culture figures also
performed songs and dances in both of these shows while Nepali community
leaders felicitated him on stage.
Tamang has two more shows left on this tour, presented by Moonlight
Records. On 8 December, he will be performing at the Jacob Javits Center
in Manhattan. This show will also feature the R&B star Raghav, who has had
three singles in the UK Top 10 and whose single ‘Angel Eyes’ propelled him
to fame. One more guest performer will also perform at this show. Then, on
